{ Narrative } We have been working with the Bayview Commons Community through workshops and outreach to develop, design and build an outdoor furniture installation that is located in their existing courtyard. The Bayview Commons Apartments is an affordable community in service since 2003, located in Bayview-Hunters Point. Our hope is that this installation can create a new vibrant imagination and gathering space for all residents of this diverse building, but especially for the 29 children residing here. As students, this is a excellent opportunity for us as designers to hone and develop our design skills while learning to fabricate, build and deliver a creative outdoor installation for our client.
{ Kid of PARTS } a series of ‘Play Furniture’ with a coded ground scape that uses graphic color markings to encourage imagination, exploration & intergenerational play.
{ Community Workshop } by encouraging various online meetings with SFHDC and the community Youth, we’ve learned that the residents would like an active, inter-generational and flexible space: allowing interactive play, seating, relaxing and community events.
{ Objective } is to design a flexible system that incorporates a range of different activities from play to relax and is available for all generations and residents. We are trying to beautify and activate the courtyard to fully optimize the space.
