{ Narrative } Eating is a essential cultural need in society; therefore access to high quality produce in a community is fundamental. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) characterized Food Deserts as low-income areas with limited access to healthy, affordable food. With the ever-changing economic expansion, these diverse communities are being left behind. With Bayview-Hunters Point being one of the largest communities in San Francisco, the residents are forced to face hardships while eating unhealthy processed food.
{ Design Build } a project delivery method in which one entity, ‘the master-builder,’ works under a single contract with the project owner to provide both design and construction services throughout the entire project.
{ Food-Desert } an urban area in which it is difficult to find and buy affordable or good-quality fresh produce.
{ Objective } the team will work collaboratively to design, test, evaluate, and fabricate a real project for the community within Hunter’s Point neighborhood. The project team will include the architect, project management company, the community, and other financial stakeholders.
